Outings

This page is for announcements and photos of garden visits organised by the Society.

October 10th, Sunday 2-4pm: Oakcroft Rd.

A special opening of Sian’s garden for our members, a lovely chance to catch up and £251 raised for Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice.

September 18th: Grove Park Open Garden

A special opening of this NGS exotic garden for our members, Saturday September 18th at 11am. A wonderful visit.

August 4th: RHS Hyde Hall

Self-drive/car share trip to the Flower Show at RHS Hyde Hall. A lovely day, with lots of quality plant stalls. A difficult journey home due to traffic, but it didn’t spoil the day!

June 18th: Beth Chatto Gardens

June 5th: Afternoon tea at Garrison Church Woolwich.

Members who came to this were treated to an interesting talk from Tim Barnes about the history of the Church, and the plans for the future, including a Commonwealth Garden designed by Chelsea gold medal winner Juliet Sargeant. We also saw the crypt and the beautiful mosaics. The award-winning gates feature three flowers of remembrance, the Poppy, the Forget me not (Germany) and the Cornflower (France).

GREAT COMP Friday Sept 25th and Monday 21 Sept 2020

The garden is looking so good at this time of year, it really is Salvia heaven. This is a video of our day trip .

Hall Place visit, Sept 9th 2020

We had a lovely relaxing day at Hall Place, it has been maintained very well considering lockdown issues. This “tropical” display near the main entrance was particularly colourful, with cannas, castor oil plants, dahlias and sunflowers. The topiary “beasts” looked very smart and the long borders were interesting for ideas as they were laid out by colour. After a picnic lunch, visiting the small but very good quality plant centre finished off an excellent day.

OUR 2019 VISITS:

Monday 30th September: Anna led a walk around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, on a slightly grey but thankfully dry autumnal day. Our small group had a great time meandering around the park. The planting is very natural-looking with some wonderful pops of colour from red-hot pokers and Eucomis. Definitely worth another visit at a different season.
